The LAKE EUCUMBENE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (Inc.)


The Lake Eucumbene Chamber of Commerce (Inc.) was established at a public meeting in December 2002. Since then it has worked hard to foster business and economic development throughout the whole Eucumbene area. It has an active business and social policy and believes that economic development and a healthy community environment are intertwined.

2009 ACTIVITIES:

MEETINGS:

  • An important Committee Meeting was held on Mon. 23rd Nov.

  • On Wed. 21st October a Public Meeting was held in the Snowgoose Hotel commencing with pre dinner drinks at 6.30pm. The meeting took place informally over dinner.
    Attendees learnt that:
    1. Dr Kim Houghton of 'Strategic Economic Solutions' has been commissioned to research, prepare and write a five year Economic Action (Strategic) Plan for the Lake Eucumbene region. He will conclude this process by giving a Presentation to the Chamber. This will be funded, as planned, with the balance remaining of the TVFP NSW DSRD grant. A sub-committee was formed.

    2. The Snowy River Shire Council had allocated $10,000 from its most recent round of RLGIP Federal funding towards the Chamber's 'Adaminaby Beautification Plan'.


  • The Monday 28th September Public meeting commenced at @ 6.00pm in the Snowgoose Hotel. It informed local businesses about the progess of the Adaminaby and Lake Eucumebene Strategic Plan Review This is the third Strategic Plan and builds on the 1998 and 2003 documents and is the finalization of the Towns and Villages Futures Program that has been an important feature of Chamber work over the last two years.   • The Chamber's Monday 7 th September meeting took place in the meeting room of the Adaminaby Hall on . The guests were from Tourism Snowy Mountains, and were Steve Redden the Depty Chair, Jo Larkin its EO and Caroline Fox administrative assistant. The Presentation was open to the Public. The evening commenced with a 'meet and greet' and a light meal. Meeting with TSM
    Jo Larkin then gave a very comprehensive Presentation, providing a very worthwile insight into the current operations and plans of this region's peak tourism organisation. Members found the interaction between Tourism NSW and other tourism bodies in other states, particularly with reference to marketing the Alps regions very relevant. A short business meeting followed and matters dealt with included the completion of the Strategic Plan, issues arising from the June Town Meeting including the Adaminaby Township Beautification Plan.   • The June meeting was a Public Meeting and was held on Mon. 1st in the Snow Goose Hotel cnr Denison and Baker Streets Adaminaby.
    1. Proceedings began with a 2 course pre-meeting dinner at the special rate of $15 @ 6.30pm in the dining room.
    2. The MEETING commenced promptly at 7.30pm in the function room.
    3. The keynote speaker was Senior Constable Tanya Eade-Smith and her topic was "Security in the region as we enter the winter season"
    4. This was followed by a FORUM which looked at the future direction of the Chamber and input from the public was extremely helpful.
    5. Booking was essential.

  • The May meeting was held on Monday 4th May at 7.30pm in the meeting room of the Adaminaby Hall. Guest speakers were from Snowy Hydro who presented an extremely informative update about water management and a demonstration of their cloud seeding technique.

  • Our AGM was held on Monday 2nd March in the meeting room of the Adaminaby Hall.
    AGM The guest speaker was Adrian Menhenitt owner of the Ultralight Flying Obsession and deputy chair of the Snowy River Aviators who informed members about the latest developments at the Kennedy Airfield. He also told us about the history of ultralight flying, told us about pilot training and answered our myriad questions.
    As well as the new executive listed above, our new deputy chair is Ken Prendergast and Committee members are Tim Corkill, Pam Gipson and Lyn Heidtmann (Tanderra Lodge Motel).
    It was also decided to call general meetings every second month.

  • Our first business meeting for 2009 was held on Monday 2nd February in the meeting room of the Adaminaby Hall cnr York and Denison Streets, Adaminaby @ 7.30pm.

    GENERAL INFORMATION:
    The CHAMBER'S MEETING PROGRAM:
    At the request of local businesses for the remaining months of 2009 Presentations about significant issues affecting this region are being organised. The dates, times and locations will be listed above. (no meetings are held in January, July and August).

    Two types of Membership are offered:
    1. Business - available to:
    a. Owners of Business located in the Lake Eucumbene Region,
    b. Local Organizations, Clubs and Associations
    2. Community:
    Available to local citizens, who are resident in the area and NOT owners of businesses.

    B. Annual Subscriptions:
    • Business: $80
    • Community: $20

    • Currently there are 21 Business Members and 13 Community Members

      • Workshops/Seminars being organized by SEACC and the BEC in:
        * Snowy River, Cooma-Monaro & Bombala Shires.
        *ACT-'Capital Country'.

      • Tourism newsletters, advertising opportunities and information from Tourism NSW and TSM
    4. First priority to attend free of charge, locally organized Workshops and Seminars.
    5. On ALL brochures and publications produced by this Chamber:

      COMMUNITY MEMBERS RECEIVE:
    1. Minutes of meetings, agendas and notifications of special meetings,

      OUR PLANS for 2008-09:
    1. Completion of our 5 Year Strategic Plan,
    2. Continuation of our high quality MARKETING CAMPAIGN,
    3. Organization of a WORKSHOP that will be presented by a recognized economic expert who will provide local businesses with the tools to use current statistical data to:
      * Obtain a greater understanding of their area and businesses,
      * Market their businesses more effectively
      * Improve their awareness of their own strengths,
      * Attract new business to the area.
    4. To continue to run a productive Chamber of Commerce which will benefit its members in all ways.
    5. As a Chamber of Commerce located in an area with a tourism based economy we are working at improving the area's economy via the development and improvement of the 'Tourist Loop' concept via asphalted roads namely, 1.
