The Lake Eucumbene region is located in the Snowy Mountains in the northern part of the Kosciusko National Park.
This is an area noted for its pristine environment, the Lake being about 1200 metres above sea level and
the higher peaks rising to over 1600 metres. Unique geographic features from caves to gigantic boulders distinguish
this area along with its silence and crisp, clean, clear mountain air. This area is a haven for Australian wildlife and its wildflowers
are reknown worldwide.Current information

The construction of Lake Eucumbene began the building of Australia's iconic Snowy Mountains
Hydro Electricity Scheme and was completed in 1958. It is the largest of the Snowy Scheme lakes and
holds around 9 times the volume of water that Sydney Harbour does.
Lake Eucumbene is the biggest alpine Lake
in eastern Australia and is about 40km from Cooma at its closest point.
This Lake is undoubtedly one of the best fishing places in the Australian Highlands
holding Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout.
The closest township to Lake Eucumbene is Adaminaby where you can stock up on food, fuel and
fishing supplies.
Accommodation can be found in Adaminaby, as well as in the numerous locations around
the Lake such as Old Adaminaby, Anglers Reach, Providence, and right around to Braemar Bay.
We have 2 BOAT RAMPS that give year round access to Lake Eucumbene at:

ATTRACTIONS IN THE LAKE EUCUMBENE REGION:
ADAMINABY'S ICONIC "BIG TROUT"
Known around the world, this wonderful icon has helped established Adaminaby as the Trout Fishing capital
of Australia. This wonderful work of art was lovingly built and donated by the artist Andy Lominici who
was himself a resident of Adaminaby. Starting early in 1972, working from a drawing he made of a Rainbow Trout,
Andy Lomnici designed and created a 10 metre high, 2.5 tonne, steel framed, wire-mesh structure covered with
layers of fibreglass and costing $6,000. It was officially opened along with the inaugural Adaminaby Trout Festival
by the Hon. Tom Lewis, NSW Minister for
Lands and Tourism, on Sat. 3rd Nov. 1973.
More than thirty years after its official opening when Adaminaby is mentioned, everyone immediately thinks of our "BIG TROUT" and
our significant annual Snowy Mountains Trout Festival.
This year the dates of the Snowy Mountains Trout Festival
are Sat. Oct 29th to Fri.
4th November. As usual there are stunning prizes to be won.
